We’re getting the last real heat wave before winter and snow take over here, and my kids asked me for a nice cold lemonade to cool off. Easy enough, right? Just water, sugar, and lemon juice. That’s what I thought too, until I actually stood at the counter trying to get the balance right.
Turns out lemonade is one of those drinks that’s easy to make but tricky to make well. Too much sugar and it tastes like candy water. Too little and your face puckers up before the glass reaches your lips. After a few rounds of tasting (and a few funny faces from my testers), I finally landed on the version that disappeared from the pitcher in about ten minutes.
So if your kids are demanding lemonade too, or you just want something bright before the cold weather locks in, here’s the recipe that actually works.
(Experiment 237) Lemonade
Ingredients
- 1 cup of lemon juice about 5 or 6 lemons
- 200 gr sugar
- 4 cups of water
Instructions
- In a pot combine 1 cup of water with the sugar and heat it up at low/medium heat. You don’t want to boil this just that it’s hot so both merge together. Stir every now and then. When it’s done remove it from heat and it cool.
- Extract the juice of the lemons until you get a cup. I highly recommend you wash the lemon first 🙂
- Once done, dump the juice into the pot with the rest of the mixture and mix.
- Add the remaining water and do a taste test. At this stage my kids love it but I find it’s still way too sweet so I add water more water to my glass. Adjust to your taste.
