(Experiment 293) Limonada suica

The fun thing about Limonada suica (Swiss lemonade) is that it’s a Brazilian drink. That really caught my interest and I tried to dig into the reason and the most logical explanation: it resembles a Swiss drink named leche condensada ( condensed milk) .

Regardless of its origin, this is an amazing drink on a hot day. The bitterness from the lime combined with the richness of the condensed milk and the sweetness of the sugar just work super well together.

You need

  • 5 limes
  • 2cups ice cubes
  • 1/2cup condensed milk
  • 4cups water
  • sugar to taste ( I recommend about 3 tbsp to get a good balance of taste)

Instructions

  1. Wash the limes, reserve one and slice the remaining 4 into 8 pieces or so ( no need to be fancy) .
  2. Dump the sliced limed in a blender with water and blend for 10-15 seconds on medium-low speed.
tip: If you blend at high speed or longer than 15 seconds it will get very bitter
  3. Use a chinois or strainer and filter the mixture. Transfer back into the blender
  4. Add the condensed milk, ice cubes, and sugar. Cut the leftover lime in half and squeeze it into the mixture
  1. Pulse blend until desired ice consistency, the more you blend, the more of a “smoothie” ish consistency you will get which the kids and I really enjoy.

Saúde!
