Eat better

(Experiment 289) Las Vegas travel

For work, I had the opportunity to travel to Las Vegas for a 4-day event and was lucky enough to eat at 3 of Gordon Ramsay’s restaurants. I am not a huge fan of Las Vegas primarily because they allow smoking inside… come on we are in 2024. Outside of this, the city’s vibe is so touristy it loses its cachet. It feels like everything is stuck on a loop and they rewind the tape at the end of the day and press start in the morning.

I might be able to attend the same event next year so might be able to try a couple more restaurants.

Hells Kitchen

Had to. Just had to and glad I did. Is it overrated? Maybe a bit but the food was quite good to be honest. I started with the lobster risotto, unfortunately, the risotto was lukewarm but the lobster was hot and probably one of the best I have had.

My main was the crispy skin salmon which was good but the dessert is what I want to talk about. I want to talk about the chocolate mousse cake. It’s a red velvet cake sandwich with chocolate mousse with speculoos ice cream. It was amazing. The mousse had a good consistency and texture and had a strong chocolate flavour. I am not a red velvet guy and it was good. Highly recommend you try it.

Gordon Ramsay Fish and chips

I ate thousands of fish and chips in my life in I don’t know how many countries. Is it the best? No, but it was damn tasty. I took the cod and shrimp combo. You get to pick 2 sauces, I took sriracha and tartar, and both were good. It’s fresh and very hot. The breading is not too thick which I appreciate.

The downside is there are only 7-8 guests that can eat inside, its mostly a takeout. Also, there are no toilets so after eating you leave with greasy hands. Would still go back for some more

Gordon Ramsay pub and grill

You get Gordon’s food in a pub-style ambiance inside Caesar`s palace. Odd combination but it works. I had a craving for lobster all week and wasn’t able to eat any so on our last nite I jumped on those lobster rolls.

Its a mixture of lobster, shrimp, tarragon and aioli served on some buns which I suspect were grilled with butter and a tiny bit of cinnamon. They look like crap but they were amazing.

My main was the seared scallops served with a lemon herbs butter sauce. Cooking scallops is an art, easy to under or overcook them. In this case, they were almost perfectly cooked. The sauce was really tasty and I would have taken more!

It was served with king trumpet mushroom and again they were cooked to perfection.

For desert, I had the Guinness sundae and I would not recommend it. Too sweet, too many textures that don’t work together. They soak the cake in Guinness but it tastes odd. This was a miss
